LATE 18TH / EARLY 19TH CENTURY ENGRAVED & HAND-COLOURED FOLDING FAN

An attractive late Georgian folding fan, circa 1780–1810, the double paper leaf finely engraved and hand-coloured with an extensive picturesque landscape scene, populated by elegantly dressed figures amongst trees, water and architectural features, mounted on bone sticks, the outer guards moulded and carved with floral ornament and shell-form detail at the pivot.

The reverse plain. In notably good overall condition for its age, the engraved and hand-coloured leaf retaining good detail and colour, with some age-related spotting, light surface marking and a small number of holes/pinholes and minor wear at the folds. The sticks and guards similarly well preserved with age-related discolouration and wear. Subject and publisher presently unidentified.
